Question to Liz Forgan, ACE
Before answering my question, please click here to read : BBC News : Offsted 2012: Literacy Progress has Stalled
and here to read : Estimated Cost to UK economy £81 billion p.a.Given that Finland , South Korea and most recently Bolivia address their concerns for national literacy by "increasing access" to public libraries
QUESTION :
(a) Please clarify ACE's stance on (i) the closure and (ii) the degredation in quality (e.g. de-staffing) of accessible, local branch libraries in England; and
(b) Justify the government's policies that reduce public access and explain why ACE makes no attempt to challenge these, given the evidence.
Thank you
