Please Help to Save the Library

Friends of Old Town Library are supporters of a campaign to keep Swindon
Old Town’s small library open beyond April 2009.

If we can rely on Councillors' promises made earlier in the year, their decision with regard to the future of Old Town Library will be made on the basis of book-borrowing and usage in 2008.   Do you value the staff of Old Town Library and want to continue to enjoy it as it is, or would you accept some big changes to the way it is run?  Please
Click here Old Town & Lawn Councillors and then on the link bearing the Councillor's name (top left) to express your concerns to them.   We'd appreciate it if you could send a comment to us about the suggestion recently made by one Councillor that the library be run by volunteers after April 2009, please see  'A Suggestion from Councillors'  under

A Suggestion from Councillors
The Friends request that the Council makes savings elsewhere, in order to let Old Town Library continue with its current professional staff.  However, Councillors have recently suggested that it should be run by volunteers after April 2009.
Is that an idea to which you could respond?   Please Contact Us to comment about volunteering.    No details of your message will be passed on without permission.
Thank you.

Latest Update   --   Twinning with Anguilla's Library
Anguilla has recently been battered by Hurricane Omar, but has come through safely in
spite of suffering some physical damage. As you know, we plan to link the Friends with
the library on this small Caribbean island in the British West Indies. Anguilla's Library
Service are keen to take the plan forward and have some exciting proposals for us for
2009, if Old Town Library survives well beyond its 'review' date in April.
